Institute for Diplomacy and Economy (instituDE) strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Nice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. This violent attack can have no excuse and must be condemned unequivocally.
The heinous incidents in France in which people were beheaded echo the radical ideology of ISIS. All Muslims must reject radicalism that abuses and distorts Islam to justify violent attacks. Needless to say, terrorism has no religion.
Derogatory language by some leaders for the sake of shallow political interests only incites more hatred and violence, disrupting peaceful coexistence. Political leaders and other relevant actors must act responsibly and refrain from provocative statements.
We, as former Turkish diplomats who closely follow the increasing violence in the name of religion, believe that the fight against terrorism can only succeed through more democracy, freedom of speech and tolerance to the adherents of other faiths.
